GB Star McHugh - 3 Touchdowns

The Exiles smashed their way into the play-offs with a convincing victory over the Devils who return home rooted to the bottom of the table.

Today's victory sees the Exiles finish the regular season with 7 wins and 3 losses, a record which has solidified a place in the play-offs for the Division 1 championship.

The Exiles started fast, scoring 21 unanswered points in the first quarter, with Rich McHugh, now returned from his spell with the Great Britain team, scoring the first two touchdowns on passes of 4 and 8 yards from Aaron Griffiths. The quarter was rounded out with Sean Starwind catching a 16 yard effort, again from Griffiths, with the same duo hooking up for the 2 point conversion.

The second quarter saw more of the same, Wesley Eversley scoring first on an 8 yard run, before Griffiths again found McHugh, this time from 23 yards out, for the final score of the half, and a 35-0 lead.

Cahoon - 9 season wait over

The second half started just as strongly, with the Exiles driving behind the rushing of Eversley and Paul Samartin, before Griffiths again found Starwind, this time from 10 yards out.

The Devils finally got on the scoreboard late in the third quarter with a 9 yard run, but the extra point was snuffed out by Marlon Smith, who led the defence with 9 tackles on the day, by tackling the holder before the kick was taken.

The rest of the defence also performed admirably, Aaron Alexis and Ashley Healy recording 5 and 4 tackles respectively, whilst Kerry Gray and Steve Morrison again recorded sacks. Perhaps the day's best performance though came from back-up linebacker Adam Pearson who made the most of his opportunity to play and recorded 4 tackles in a performance which impressed his coaches.

The fourth quarter saw more of the one way traffic at first, Samartin scoring from 3 yards out to make it 49-6, and then Carl Cahoon picked off a wayward Devils pass and returned the interception 33 yards for the touchdown. It was his first in 9 seasons of play.

Balogun - 78 yard rumble

But then the Devils scored again late in the game, following a good drive, this time on a 2 yard run. But not to let them have the last points of the game Ade Balogun broke through the line and blocked the extra point, before scooping up the football and returning it 78 yards the other way for 2 points to the Exiles, and rounding off the final score of 58-12.

The Exiles now have to wait and see who they will face in the first round of the play-off race, but it is certain to be a tough game, and one that playing in the competitive Division 1 South East will have set them up for well.

Full details of the Exiles play-off opponents, and the game venue, can be found on the Exiles website,, as well as details of how you can get involved in any of the Exiles squads which cater for all ages and abilities from 11 years and upwards.
