Comeback falls just short

Kent Exiles 17-18 Sabres AFC

10-04-1994

With quarterback Phil Patton serving a suspension in the game, the Exiles turned to their prolific running game, and behind a magnificent 202 yards from Alan Hands pushed the Sabres right to the death.

The Exiles were 18-3 down halfway through the third quarter, and had only scored on Nick Walton's 32 yard field goal, when the fightback began. First a 3 yard run from Julian Wates, after a 74 yard drive, and then on the next drive Alan Hands broke free on a 68 yard touchdown gallop to bring the Exiles right back into it.

The Exiles next drive faltered on the Sabres 4 yard line, but the Sabres could not move far behind a great defensive effort from Simon Butler and Patrick Child, and then on 4th down Julian Wates broke through the line to block the Sabres punt out of the endzone for a safety.

Graham Blundell then intercepted the Sabres on their next drive, but the Exiles could not get into scoring range before time ran out.
