The Kent Exiles held their annual flag day recently, and the day was by far the biggest and best so far.

With 12 teams participating, the day boasted players from all age groups, 6 BAFL teams, several BUAFL teams, and a host of Britball veterans and legends.

'Conference 1' was made up of four teams, Zac's Ritchie's, a team from the Exiles senior team including QB Zac Ritchie and Head Coach Tony Bainbridge. Pimp's & O's, led by Matt Luck this team comprised current London Olympians players. The Linemen, led by Exiles chairman Dave Pester with a few Ex-iles including Terry Jeacock and Brad Stephenson. And finally the Wingdings, an old BAFL Flag team led by Michael Bloomfield.

It turned out to be a very competitive conference, but the Pimp's & O's prevailed thanks to a one point victory over Zac's Ritchie's who finished second. The Wingdings took third place, and The Linemen got to visit the BBQ early!

'Conference 2' had the Sussex Thunder, led by Oli DeRuyter and Phil Allman. The One, led by an ex-exile Junior  player Tom Mann, and including players from the current Junior team. The Ravens, led by Exiles Junior Haydn Allen, and accompanied by his 2011 team mates. And The Riff Raff, led by Exiles running back Nick Thompson, and made up from his work mates and friends.

Red Legend's Francis Hatega

Another competitive division saw the Ravens fall to second place following a 20-12 loss against conference champions the Sussex Thunder. The Riff Raff won the race for third after a 6-0 victory over The One.

'Conference 3' was made up from some young teams, as well as two of the most experienced teams ever assembled. Exiles defensive back Nick Clifford led the Sidcup Knights, and Richard Francia of the Farnham Knights led Team Awesome, which also included players from the Greenwich Mariners and Essex Spartans. Then came Experience Kills, with many Medway Mustangs, Invicta Eagles and Old Exiles on the team, including Dan Dart, Colin Hubbock, John Moore and Paul Schaller. Finally the team that everyone feared, the Red Legends! Made up from some of the greatest Britball names ever, and coached by London Blitz defensive co-ordinator Damian Anderson, they also included Scott Rowe, Sacha Conte and Francis Hatega!

This conference also came down to the wire, but the Red Legends lived up to their reputation and with a 7-6 victory over Team Awesone took the division. Experience Kills took third place, with Sidcup Knights bringing up the rear.

With the conferences over, the play-offs could take place to decide the overall winners. The Conference Champions were joined by Zac's Ritchies who just beat out Team Awesone for the 'wild-card' spot thanks to a better points differential, and the draw was as follows;

Pimp's & O's vs Zac's Ritchie's
Sussex Thunder vs Red Legends

The Champions - Zac's Ritchie's

Both games were thrillers, in the first semi final Zac's Ritchie's got their revenge over the Pimp's and O's with a 19-12 victory, whilst youth triumphed over experience in the second game as the Sussex Thunder knocked out the Red Legends 20-12.

This left the final as Sussex Thunder vs Zac's Ritchie's, it was the Exiles squad which jumped out to an early lead, but a spirited comeback from the Thunder made it an exciting game until one last touchdown put the game out of reach and Zac's Ritchie's had won the title by 26-13.

So the Exiles squad was victorious, but it was football that was the winner on the day. All of the teams participating did so in the spirit of the event, one of fun and comradeship, with an emphasis on having a great day with friends from over the football world.

We'd also really like to thank the BAFRA officials who attended for some much needed officiating, as well as all of the other volunteers on the day.

The Exiles now look forward to 2012, and setting the date for next years annual flag day, and will welcome all comers for a day of fun!
