The Kent Exiles Seniors traveled to Canterbury today for Kentish bragging rights, in their local derby versus the East Kent Mavericks, and at the end of the day came home stunned on the end of a 42-6 thrashing.

The Exiles started slowly with mistakes costing them an early 14-0 deficit with only having the ball for three plays themselves. But the defence played fantastically for the rest of the first half, Chris Harris making several tackles, along with good play from Adam Pearson and Jon Dwyer, which allowed the Exiles to drag themselves back into the game, which they did with a Zac Ritchie pass to Rob Welling for the touchdown, and a 14-6 deficit at half time.

Having done the hard work though the Exiles self destructed in the second half, more mistakes gifting the Mavericks good field position on several occasions, and before the end of the third quarter the game was out of reach. Having seen the game slip away Exiles Coach Tony Bainbridge changed tactics in the fourth period which saw better play on the offence, which must have given him food for thought for their next game, but come the final whistle the Exiles had lost 42-6.

The seniors now have a week off before taking on the Essex Spartans in their first home game of the season. For more details on the team and information on how to join or just come and watch a match, checkout the club website,
