Exiles playoff hopes ended by Eagles

Kent Exiles 14-27 Ouse Valley Eagles

27-07-2014

The Exiles took on the Eagles in what was effectively a season decider for both teams, as it would decide 2nd place in the division, and who would qualify for post season play.

From the outset it was clear the Exiles were slow out of the traps, and the Eagles had come to play, as they scored on a 30 yard pass after intercpting Exiles QB Zac Ritchie.

The Exiles hit back though, a nice drive was finished by Dan Exell with a 15 yard run, and Ash Faiers kicked the point after, and for the time being the Exiles led 7-6.

The Eagles the adjusted well, stiffling the Exiles offence and starting to get their own going, firstly with a 8 yard pass, and two point conversion. And then with another pass and kicked extra point for a 21-7 lead.

The Exiles looked to have swung the momentum and gotten right back into it when Carl Cahoon returned an interception for a touchdown and Faiers kicked the point after once again, but the Eagles didn't let it ruffle them, and scored again in the fourth quarter to seal the game, and the final play-off spot.

Following the game Exiles Head Coach Tony Bainbridge was disappointed with the result, but commented "we were out fought today, and are all disappointed as we know we didn't perform at our best. However we've got 2 game against the Cardinals to round out the season, and we'll approach them in the hope that we get a favour from another team in the play-off race and still make it in".
