Exiles slay Spartans to go 2-0!

Sunday the 3rd May saw the Exiles Juniors take on the Essex Spartans in Billericay, Essex for their second game of the 2015 season.

The young Exiles were coming off a close victory the weekend before and were ready to showcase their ability once again, hoping this time it wouldn't be so tight. The opening drive saw the Essex offense fumble the ball, after being recovered by the Exile defense, the offense took to the field. 5 plays later Max Chance made a fantastic catch for a touchdown on a pass from QB James Cook. 6-0 Exiles. Both teams traded possession with no scores, and the Exiles fast start was beginning to lose effect. This all changed when WR Yani Ourabah came into the game and made a TD catch in the corner of the endzone to put the Exiles up 12-0. The Spartans offense took to the field, but a dominant Exiles defense showed no mercy, with strong tackling from Aaron Khan, Imraj Singh and Savior Onuorah, the ball was once again returned to the Exiles offense. A few plays later Max Chance made his second TD catch of the day, putting the Exiles up 18-0 at halftime. TD saving tackles from Max Chance prevented the Spartans from reaching the endzone on kick returns throughout the day, and the Exiles looked ready to break away in the second half.

The second half began slowly for the Exiles, moving the ball on offense but unable to punch in another score. The motivation that was needed came from LB Aaron Khan, who scooped up a fumble and returned it 20 yards to the endzone. This big play gave the Exiles the spark they needed, and put them up 24-0. The Exiles offense continued to move the ball with great blocking up front from Jack Clark, Savior Onuorah, and Hamish Elliott, as well as blocking from Tom Lee, Han Whitmore and strong running from RB Sean Seeds. This persistent effort was rewarded by a Sean Seeds TD catch that put the game away for good. The PAT was converted by Max Chance to make the final score Exiles 32-0 Spartans.

Head Coach Aaron Alexis was pleased with the result, and was glad to get the first blowout win of the season under his belt. The Exiles next game will be held at the Beaverwood club on June 7th vs the Berkshire Renegades.
