Exiles Juniors steal Thunder's first win of the season!

The Exiles Juniors 2016 campaign began in style on Sunday May 1st 2016. The young Exiles travelled to Brighton to take on the brand new Sussex Thunder Juniors in their first league game of the season. A highly anticipated kickoff was followed by the Exiles defense taking the field. A few penalties were expected from the first drive of the season, but after a few short plays, the defense woke up, forcing the Thunder to punt.

It was now the Exiles’ offense turn, and after strong running and catching from Prince Wynter, the Exiles were in scoring position. A tipped ball from QB James Cook found TE Tom Lee for a touchdown not long after, and a successful 2-point conversion run in by Cook saw the Exiles up by 7. This trend continued for the rest of the game, the Exiles once again stopped Sussex on defense, with impactful tackling from Bryn Cotter, Eoin Hunt and Savior Onuorah. The Offense found the end zone once again after that, with Franco Di Nola punching the ball in from the 1 yard line. Great pass defense from Olly Gadd, Liam Riley, Euan Johnston and Gareth Norman eliminated any chance of a Sussex score, whilst crucial blocking from Hamish Elliott, Jacques O’Dwyer and Harry Costin paved the way for touchdowns from Henry Young, Connor Hassan and Prince Wynter. This all accumulated to a comfortable 46-0 lead at halftime.

The second half started no differently, as returning, catching and running from Regan Alexis put the Exiles once again in great scoring position, as the points continued to rack up. However, due to injury and player numbers, Sussex were forced to pull out of the contest midway through the 3rd quarter, leaving the final score at Exiles 58-0 Sussex. The young Exiles executed a perfect scoreless game on defense, whilst the offense scored 58/62 possible points (scoring on every drive). This was a great start to the season for the Exiles, and a welcome boost of momentum.

The Exiles Juniors next action is in their home opener against the East Kent Mavericks on May 15th in “The Battle of Kent”, at the Beaverwood Club.
