Read what Under 14 Flag Head Coach Dave Pester had to say about the 2023 season…
The 2023 season, saw the Exiles U14 flag team compete in a series of stand-alone tournaments run by local flag programs in the South East. We recruited well this season and had a squad of 25+ players, which allowed us to support the U17 flag team to complete this season, by lending players to them.
The players’ commitment and enthusiasm meant that training numbers throughout the year remained at a high level, meaning that as coaches we were able to concentrate on developing fundamentals. Establishing team leaders within the program has been successful and my thanks to Freya, Amelie, Otis and Ted for their help, support and commitment to the program this year. You will be strong ambassadors for the Club in the future.
We again won the Richard Ashby Sportsmanship and Fair Play Award this year – something as their Head Coach, I am really proud of, as our ethos is now firmly established within the flag program and it is fitting that this has been recognised and celebrated again by other teams that we came into contact with. The players should be very proud of themselves.
Congratulations to Lennie for making the GB development squad. We hope to have increased numbers within our flag program representing the Exiles at GB level in the future. Our flag program at the Exiles is all about participation and our aim is to develop our young people as players, giving them the necessary skills to play to the best of their ability as well as supporting their transition into young adults into wider society. Our aim is for as many flag players in the future to go right through the organisation and end up playing adult football. My thanks to Coach Gary for his unwavering support, time and energy. We are very short of coaches with an ever growing program so recruitment of coaches is key going forwards.
Our parents have been amazing again this year both in supporting the flag program but also supporting the club as a whole, by offering to help paint changing rooms, move storage containers and man merchandise stalls – thank you for your continued support!
