Juniors scrape fourth win of the year
Exiles juniors secured their fourth win of the season and moved to within one game of the Division 1 national playoff semi-finals with a 14-12 victory over the Thames Valley Tigers.
The visitors to Beaverwood opened the scoring with a strip sack and fumble return touchdown. But the Exiles levelled the scores late in the first quarter when quarterback George Reynolds found the end zone on a weaving 40-yard run. Reynolds also forced his way into the end zone for the two-point conversion to give the Exiles an 8-6 lead.
Reynolds helped the Exiles stretch the lead to 14-6 in the second period as he scored on a 25-yard scramble during which he was aided by a timely block from wide receiver Sam Pantlin.
Penalties stalled much of what the Exiles juniors produced the rest of the way, wiping out a Reynolds touchdown pass to Tom Slade, a long completion to Pantlin and a length-of-the-field scoring run by Bolaji Adewale.
Thames Valley pulled to within two points in the third quarter but the Exiles juniors stood firm, securing the win with a late interception by linebacker Tyreese Peters-Tovey, who was around the ball all afternoon.
The Exiles Juniors take on the London Warriors at Beaverwood on Sunday July 7 with the winner advancing to the playoffs. Kick off is at 12 noon.
