Farnham Knights vs Kent Exiles 16/6/19

Kent Exiles vs Farnham Knights
On Sunday 16th June 2019 the Kent Exiles took the journey into Surrey to take on the Farnham Knights in their fifth fixture of the 2019 season.
The game began slowly, with sure tackling from both defenses making it hard to move the ball. Exiles junior graduate and University of Brighton linebacker Johnny Ndumbe saw his first action of the season this week, plugging into a linebacking corps alongside Joe Alexis and Theo Coleman-Brown. Meanwhile, Daniel Raeburn (another former-exile junior) saw significant gametime in the defensive backfield.
The Knights would take an early lead with a strong running game, putting two scores on the board to make it 12-0 late in the second quarter. However, the Exiles refused to go scoreless going into halftime, as the offense drove late in the second quarter with James Cook hitting Danny Whitfield in the endzone on the last play of the first half. Knights 12-7 Exiles.
The third quarter saw the Exiles open up with a strong running game of their own, with George Eghator paving the way for Dan Exell on some break out runs that saw the Exiles in strong field position. However, these opportunities could not be converted into points, as the Exiles saw themselves unable to make the decisive blow.
Opportunistic plays from the defense (including interceptions by both Nick Mayer and Ian Whitehead) were able to get the Exiles offense back on the field, with Wes Eversley catching a short pass in the fourth quarter and taking it 60 yards to the endzone, leaving would-be tacklers in his wake. However, the score would be too late to make the difference the Exiles needed, as the game ended in a 28-13 victory for the Farnham Knights.
The loss to the Knights makes next weekend’s home game vs the Bristol Aztecs a must-win for the Exiles as they look to maintain premiership status moving forward. The Exiles would love to see as many supporters there as possible as they look to get back to winning ways.
