Kent Exiles @ London Blitz
On Sunday the 21st July 2019 the Kent Exiles senior team made the journey to North London to take on the London Blitz in their ninth game of the 2019 premiership season.
Despite a depleted squad, the Exiles looked to keep their premiership hopes alive as they continued to learn what the top-tier was all about.
The game began with yet another strong defensive showcase. Linebackers Joe Alexis and Theo Coleman-Brown made a traditionally strong London rushing attack look ineffective in the first half, whilst DBs Ian Whitehead, Daniel Raeburn and Nick Mayer looked to do their part in the passing game.
On offense, physical running from George Eghator and a gritty performance from the offensive line helped move the ball and put the team in good field position. However, a costly fumble on the goal line and a few unsuccessful 4th down attempts prevented the Exiles from putting anything on the scoreboard before half time.
The defense had kept them in the game however, and it remained a two-score game going into the half.
The 3rd quarter saw the premiership veterans take control, as the Blitz called upon their experience to pull away from the top-tier rookies. A steady offensive performance and an aggressive defense would ultimately triumph in the second half, as a flurry of scoring saw the Blitz walk away as 42-0 victors.
The Exiles first year in the premiership has been an enormous learning curve, and one that will be necessary as the club looks to establish itself as one of the best in the country.
The team would like to thank all friends, family and fans that were present on the day to support and volunteer their time. Without your help, the club would not be what it is today!
